What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a type of traditional Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. This is to help balance the flow of energy, or Qi (“chee”), in the body and promote physical and emotional well-being. Qi can be defined in many ways but a simple definition is the ambient quality and flow of fluids and nerve conductivity through tissues and organs and the overall ability of a person to adapt.

Studies have shown that acupuncture can be an effective form of treatment for many health conditions. For example, it has been found to help reduce pain and improve function in conditions such as back pain, headaches, and osteoarthritis. It has also been shown to help with stress and anxiety, as well as support recovery from addiction and injury. In addition, acupuncture is often used in combination with other treatments, such as medications and physical therapy, to enhance the overall effectiveness of care. Overall, acupuncture is considered to be a safe, natural, and effective form of medicine that can provide a range of health benefits.
